Women in Cycling is an initiative launched by the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF), European Cycling Industries (ECI), Mobycon and Velokonzept aiming to help women get more visibility, impact and leading seats in the cycling sector.

Officially launched virtually on 24 February 2021 with more than 1150 registered participants, Women in Cycling seeks to boost equality and diversity in the sector, bring women+ working in the cycling sector in the spotlight and to provide networking, mentoring and training opportunities. Women in Cycling is an anchor and information point and forms a base on which more active initiatives can thrive while maintaining a common vision with shared values and one visual identity. Our aim is to co-create a platform which helps improve the presence of women+ in boards, conferences and workplaces and consequently have a real impact on the adoption of cycling policies that cater to diverse needs.

Vision and aims

The vision of Women in Cycling is for a diverse, inclusive cycling sector that provides equal opportunities and contributes to achieving cycling’s full potential.

Create an empowering platform

Create an empowering platform for women+ from all parts of the sector with opportunities to network, exchange views and experiences, and collaborate on projects and initiatives that help achieve the network’s vision.

Improve diversity and gender balance

Encourage organisations in the sector to adopt targets and policies that improve diversity and gender balance and increase representation of women+ in leadership roles.

Campaign for no more manels

Women in Cycling is calling on the cycling industry to end all-male panels at sector events. Conferences and trade fairs are where the direction of the industry is shaped and female voices are still too often missing from the table.

Diverse experiences taken into account

Ensure the diverse experiences of women+ are taken into account and represented in decision making bodies, projects and processes that affect the sector.

Our activities

Advocacy

We actively contribute to the European Commission’s Women in Transport platform, which focuses on advancing the role of women+ across the transport sector. The aim of this initiative is to exchange best practices, share experiences, and support one another. Presence at Key Events

Since 2021, we have organised dedicated sessions and networking opportunities at leading international cycling events such as Velo-city and Eurobike. These moments bring our community together and amplify women+’s voices in the sector.

LinkedIn Community

We created the Women in Cycling group on LinkedIn to provide a dedicated space for women+ in the cycling sector to connect, share experiences, and support one another. The group continues to grow as a vibrant and supportive community for exchange and collaboration.

Research & Surveys

We have conducted surveys to better understand gender diversity within the cycling sector. With over 360 respondents, our initial survey highlighted the clear need for a platform like ours and continues to guide our work.

In addition, we collaborated with the Bicycle Association of Great Britain on a second survey focused on diversity across the wider cycling industry.

Spreading the Word

We actively share stories, insights, and updates through our social media channels, using the hashtag #WomenInCycling to showcase the strength and growth of our network.

Since our launch in 2021, we have hosted a series of international webinars featuring inspiring women+ from across the cycling sector, highlighting their work, experiences, and impact.
